David Peshlakai has served as principal cellist with many orchestras
across Michigan including those in Kalamazoo (his current appointment),
Battle Creek, Lansing and Flint. He also has done solo work with those
orchestras as well as orchestras at Hillsdale and Albion colleges where
he teaches music.
He was born and raised in Mount Clemens, Michigan and began his cello
training in the public schools. He entered Michigan State University to
study computer science, but switched to music three years later. Since
that time, he has earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in music
from MSU and the University of Michigan, respectively. His major
teachers include Owen Carmen and Erling Blondahl-Bengtsson. He also has
studied with the Vermeer, Julliard, Kronos and Albanberg quartets and
with William Pleeth.
He has performed solo and chamber recitals throughout the United States,
Great Britain, France and Germany. Along with an extensive performance
schedule, he teaches throughout Michigan. His students have gone on to
win scholarship positions with universities in Michigan and Ohio.
