Join CIS for Music from the Blockbusters

7 p.m., Saturday, July 30, ISU Central Campus north of the Campanile, Ames
7 p.m., Sunday, July 31, Herman Park Pavilion, Boone

Music from your favorite blockbuster will be performed live this month in Ames and Boone, compliments of the Central Iowa Symphony.

The orchestra will present its free summer pops concert on Iowa State University's central campus in Ames on Saturday, July 30. The program will be repeated the next evening at Herman Park Pavillion on South Greene Street in Boone. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m.

This will be the first official concert for Central Iowa Symphony's new conductor James Hannon. Hannon, who also is director of orchestras at Iowa State University, was hired in May after a two-year search and audition process.

Hannon has selected blockbuster movies as the theme for what will be the sixth year of the orchestra's popular summer pops program. From Howard Shore's The Lord of the Rings and familiar arrangements of timeless classics including excerpts from John Williams' amazing scores for Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Harry Potter movies, the concert is sure to offer something for everyone.

At both pops programs, concertgoers also will have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the 2005-06 concert season. For every season ticket, patrons will receive a complimentary ticket to one of the four concerts during the coming year.

For the Ames concert, free parking is available at the two-level East Campus Parking Deck at the corner of Knoll Road and Union Drive. In case of rain, the concert will be in Martha Ellen Tye Hall of the ISU Music Building, located just southwest of the central campus.
